The Randolph Arts Guild Announces: Six Month Community Artist Residency Opportunity

The Randolph Arts Guild is proud to present a new six month artist residency program at the Moring Arts Center in Asheboro, NC.  The Deadline to apply is May 15th, 2010. This opportunity is available to recent college graduates and other young and emerging artists.

The Randolph Arts Guild Community Artist Residency Program is designed to give emerging artists a productive environment to experiment and create art that involves, inspires, and engages the local community.  Resident artists will be required to give talks and studio tours as needed, and to develop and lead educational workshops in connection with the work they are creating.  Most importantly, resident artist must possess a positive attitude, a willingness to attend and participate in relevant Randolph Arts Guild functions and events.

 

Benefits:

+ 10’ x 10’ artist studio located in the Moring Art Center
+ Sponsored membership in Randolph Arts Guild for one year
+ Teaching and Curatorial experience
+ Exhibition of artist’s new work in the community gallery of the Moring Art Center at the end of the residency period

Applications must include:

  • Completed Application Form
  • Exhibition Proposal that defines type work you plan to create, how it will involve, inspire, and engage the local community (limit 1 page)
  • Resume
  • Letter of recommendation
  • Artist’s statement
  • CD - images of artist’s work

Deadline to apply is May 15th, 2010.

DEADLINE EXTENDED FOR THE RANDOLPH WRITERS SHORT STORY CONTEST 

 Entries accepted until September 4th 2010.

The Randolph Writers, a group of local writers sponsored by the Randolph Arts Guild, is accepting submissions for their yearly contest.  Works of fiction—1000 words or less—are eligible.  The contest is open to all legal residents of NC with the exception of current members of Randolph Writers and winners of last years contest.

 

Winners will be awarded in two categories: Adults, age 17 and up. Youth, ages 12-16.

 Cash prizes awarded in each category as follows:

 First place      $75.00,

 Second place $50.00,

Third Place     $25.00

Current members of the Randolph Writers will be the sole and final judges. 

 

Submissions:

Mail your entry to: Randolph Writers c/o Randolph Arts Guild P.O. Box 1033 Asheboro, NC 27204-1033.  Entry fee is $15.00

 

  1. Multiple entries are allowed, but a separate fee of $15.00 must accompany each.
  2.  Checks should be made payable to Randolph Writers.
  3. The author’s name must NOT appear on the manuscript. Entries must be original and unpublished.
  4. Submit two copies of each entry in the following format:
  • Word count—1000 words or less
  •  Double-spaced
  •  1” margins
  • 12 pt. Times New Roman.
  1. Title and word count must appear in the upper left on first page of manuscript.
  2. Enclose a 3 x 5 card with Title of your story, author’s name, address, phone number, e-mail address, and age category.
  3. Enclose a SASE with adequate postage if you would like a List of Winners!
  4. Entry Fees are non-refundable.

 

Deadline for Submissions: September 4 2010.

  1. Failure to comply with all rules may be cause for disqualification.
  2. Winners are at the total discretion of the judges.  
  3. Winners will be notified by phone and/or email on or before the week of September 12, 2010.

 

Reception:

Randolph Writers will award prizes at a reception held in the Arlene Smith Room at the Asheboro Public Library, 123 Sunset Ave, Asheboro, NC. Date to be announced.

Support the Youth Theater project and Looking Glass Artist Collective
The New Familiars (selected by Creative Loafing Charlotte as "Best Local Band of 2008.") will be bringing their rowdy folk-rock-country blues to Looking Glass Artist Collective Dec. 11.

Opening will be one-man band David Lamanno at 8 p.m. Admission is $6 in advance, $8 at the door.

A portion of the evening's proceeds are being donated to the construction of Piedmont Players' Fisher Street Youth Theater - so if you come, you can have a good time for a great cause.
